Opportunities for Action
NSTAR HERBICIDE SPRAYING NSTAR has plans to spray herbicides along powerlines on Cape Cod and across the state to control overgrowth of vegetation that may interfere with the integrity of the wires. However, safer alternatives to control the vegetation exist yet, NSTAR has not considered using these less toxic alternatives. Active ingredients used in at least on of the herbicide products planned for use on the Cape may be endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC's), a group of chemicals of high concern in the breast cancer community. Furthermore, up to 70% of ingredients in these products are undisclosed and may be linked to additional health concerns and breast cancer. NSTAR needs to hear from you! Tell NSTAR that these chemicals have no place being sprayed in a sensitive environment like Cape Cod, an area which already boasts some of the highest breast cancer rates in the country. Learn more and take action by CLICKING HERE! IMMEDIATE ACTION ALERT! Call NSTAR this week to tell their representative that you object to the use of herbicides on Cape Cod and that you would like to see a more long-term, sustainable method of vegetative management, as they have done for many years. Please contact Jeffrey Luce, NSTAR Electric Community Relations, (508) 957-4502 or email him at jeffrey.luce@nstar.com. |
