BLACK WOMEN AND BREAST CANCER CONFERENCE 2010 

BOSTON: The Black Women and Breast Cancer Conference 2010, which took place April 24, 2010 at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, was a resounding success and hosted members of the professional, paraprofessional and other concerned community members, survivors and activists.  The event firmly reinforced the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s ongoing commitment to dispel the myths and misconceptions about the realities of breast cancer by supporting a free forum that was open to the public. 

  


 

Highlights / Key Facts:

Keynote speaker with a personal investment in the fight against disparities.  The opening keynote session was presented by Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones, MD, MPH, PhD, Research Director on Social Determinants of Health and Equity in the Division of Adult and Community Health, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP). Workshops to discuss important topics in health disparities and environmental justice.  Individuals across the health disparities spectrum came together in interactive workshop sessions to share, learn and network with peers. Workshops included “Intimacy, Sexuality and Breast Cancer,” “Environmental Toxins and Breast Cancer in Communities of Color” and “Breast Cancer Disparities in Boston.” There was also a crew of massage therapists on site throughout the conference.
